W02 Reflection: Entrepreneurial Blog

I loved reading about Randy Pausch. Although his life ended much sooner than anyone would have wished, he was still able to achieve many of his childhood dreams. To Randy, they weren't just dreams; they were goals. From a young age, he realized that in order to live the life that he dreamed of, he would have to plan and execute.

My wife has always seen me as a dreamer, because I have looked toward the future for all kinds of things. That is because I grew up in a dreamer's home, which my parents passed onto me. Unfortunately, they were more of the dream and keep dreaming type, never really turning those dreams into reality. I wish that they taught me how to achieve dreams. A dream is really just a wish if there is no plan in place. Dreams are an important component to life because they can spark action. As an adult, I've learned that if I want to make something happen, I can't just talk about it. I have to find actionable milestones to slowly start earning small wins that will position me closer toward that dream. Often times, dreams require sacrifice. That means my life isn't going to necessarily look like anyone else's because I am working towards something greater. This can be a turn-off, and a reason why many  people aren't willing to put in the work. Eventually, because of the sacrifices that I made, I will be able to live a life like no one else. When finally acheiving my dream, I get to really enjoy my harvest.

My childhood dream was to become a millionaire. I was basically obsessed with money, always looking for new ways to earn it. While my dream is still in place today, I have a different motivation for it. As a kid, I cared about money because of the things that I could buy with it. As an adult, my passion for this goal is less about the stuff and more about security and freedom. What if my business fails? What if I become permanently disabled? In a world of volatility, being a millionaire could provide a measure of comfort. I am on the path toward fulfilling this dream and believe that I will within the next ten years.
